Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It by Kamal Ravikant
Actionable Takeaways
“If I loved myself, truly and deeply, what would I do?”
Molding the mind is like water cutting through rock. We actually carve new mental pathways and patterns. We have to work hard to do this with deliberate practice. When we stop doing the work, our mind will revert to default patterns.
Action: Make it the path of least resistance to treat myself like I would treat a friend, via 10 breaths meditation twice a day.
Miscellaneous Brain Popcorn
“Transformation takes work.”
“Death precedes rebirth.”
Life happens:
to you (victim)
for you (entitled and empowered agent)
through you (magician)
Thoughts and feelings determine internal state
Internal state determines external state

A Virginia Satir model for communication

I:
observe
distill some meaning
compute the significance of this meaning, to me
respond
then they:
observe
distill some meaning
compute some significance
respond
then I:
observe
distill some meaning
compute some significance
respond

Parable of the Construction Equipment
I was sitting at an intersection. The construction man waved me on, but… the machine behind him was rolling towards me so I didn’t go. Fears are super powerful. Sometimes the negative thoughts in my head are the construction equipment. They don’t seem to care if the construction man is waving me on or not. Those negative thoughts aren’t paying attention to the little guy in the road. I have to train my minds to pay attention to each other. And bolster the skills and awareness of the traffic signaler to take into account the machine behind him.
