Get to the next screen.
Dear friend,
I loved the Altered Carbon Netflix series. In it Quellcrist Falconer teaches Takeshi Kovacs to get to the next screen whenever he’s being tortured in virtual. There’s a hack around the brain chips that will circumvent the torture and allow the good guys to win.
You model this in our real world.
- This project is too hard and brings no joy… you spent the minimal possible time on it.
- This role isn’t really working out… you resigned.
- This lifestyle/neighborhood/body type isn’t quite right… you moved on. You got to the next screen. You unlocked some new talent. Some new way to perform. And we all got to enjoy whatever it was you found out you were super good at next.
My default pattern is the opposite. When things get hard, I tend to buckle down.
I’m proud of you for continuing to move on and look for fits that are right for a given time and place in your life. It’s important for me to remember to get to the next screen.
Thank you for teaching me.
Yours,
JT
P.S. – I love that you’re a mega-gamer. I think you’ll be excited to know that I learned the cheat codes for my partner:
- Do what you say you’re going to do.
- Move your body.
- Try to get better.
If I do those three things then the next screen will always be better for us.
